Level Design
This project was aimed to be a challenge and fun experience that challenges the player to make decisions and choose the best path to navigate the level, aim high to avoid conflict or time the cool down on the blaster to remove enemies from the level. The gameplay space was designed to be navigated by teleport in key gameplay sections. Along with proper tutorialization of the space in the beginning of the experience.
Enviromental Mechanics
The water serves as a barrier, preventing the player from falling while guiding their progression. Once the player reaches a specific area of the map, the water level lowers, unlocking new pathways and opportunities. The space is designed with verticality in mind, encouraging players to look upward for teleportation points and creating a non-linear, exploratory feel that challenges them to think critically about their path.
What I learned
Relying on myself for this project taught me a lot about choices and what they mean. The pipeline that I was solely responsible for made me think critically and consciously about the decisions I made and how effective they would need to be. I would like to revisit this in the future given my current learnings and update this over time. I also would like to carry the importance of intention and choice and how the gameplay mechanics into my future endeavors.
